Legal support in Ecuador

Ecuador is one of our live markets. We handle service of process, evidence requests, document authentication, translations, company formation, and arbitration support on the ground in Quito, Guayaquil, and Cuenca — one accountable provider, reporting straight back to your firm.

What we handle in Ecuador

Every service is sourced, performed, and supervised through our own managed network — with the right channel and procedure for Ecuadorian courts, notaries, and registries.

How cross-border procedure works in Ecuador

A quick orientation for foreign counsel. Ecuador is a civil-law jurisdiction and is not a party to the Hague Service or Evidence Conventions, which changes the channels you can use.

Service of process

Ecuador is not a Hague Service country. Service from abroad runs through the Inter-American Convention on Letters Rogatory and its Additional Protocol, transmitted to Ecuador's Central Authority with certified Spanish translations, for service under Ecuadorian law.

Evidence & testimony

Ecuador is not a Hague Evidence party, and voluntary depositions of willing witnesses are not permitted on Ecuadorian soil. Compelled testimony and document production run through letters rogatory to the Ecuadorian courts — plan for it from the outset.

Document authentication

Ecuador is a party to the Apostille Convention. Foreign documents are typically apostilled in the country of origin, then need a certified Spanish translation and, depending on use, protocolization through an Ecuadorian notary before a registry or court will accept them.

Timelines

Inter-American service and letters rogatory are reliable but measured in months, not weeks. Build the timeline into your scheduling order and start early; rush handling is available in the major cities where the record allows.

This page is general information for legal professionals, not legal advice, and procedures change. Confirm the current rules and competent authorities for your specific matter.
